This is what the Lord asks of you: only this, to act justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with your God.
  ~ Micah 6:8

Doug is deeply missed by family, friends, peers, and fellow Advocates.

Edward J. Wind Memorial Scholarship

Mental health advocate and AU supporter Edward J. WindMental health advocate and AU supporter Edward J. Wind passed away on November 20, 2011 in South Carolina.

Ed was born and raised in New Britain, CT and later became a mental health advocate in South Carolina. Part of Ed's advocacy included disclosing his personal story in a major South Carolina newspaper for the purpose of increasing funding for mental health services. He was quoted in the article expressing why the funding is necessary. "You kind of put a brave face on every day and you try to perform," Wind said. "It's like basically being locked up in chains. It's a thief. It robs you of happiness, success. It will take everything away from you if you'll let it." Disclosing is incredibly difficult but it helps so many people. We thank Ed for everything he did to further our cause. He will be deeply missed.

The Edward J. Wind Memorial Scholarship has been established by Edward's family as a tribute to his courage, enthusiasm, and dedication in advocating for mental health services, and to assist others in obtaining certification as Recovery Support Specialists, as Edward would have been eager to do.

AU General Scholarship Fund

AU LogoAdvocacy Unlimited, Inc., and its Board of Directors is extremely pleased to have established the AU General Scholarship Fund. This fund will help more students enroll in the Recovery University course who would otherwise not be able to attend.

AU and its Board of Directors recognizes the importance and significance of employment of persons in recovery in the behavioral health field and the overwhelmingly positive effect that has on their personal lives, on maintaining their recovery, and on the lives of others in recovery they will be helping. Certification as a Recovery Support Specialist through RU has proven to be a major step for persons with lived experience throughout Connecticut in gaining employment in the mental health field.
