Graduation Ceremony

Congratulations to the graduating students of the 2010 Hartford Asylum Hill English Class and the Seventh Spanish Class. To recognize and honor these courageous individuals as they begin their journey as AU Advocates, a commencement ceremony was held Friday, April 9, 2010 at Mi Casa Family Services in Hartford

Acting Executive Director of the Latino and Puerto Rican Affairs Commission, with the students of AU's 7th Hispanic Advocacy Education Course

Friends, family, guests, and fellow AU Advocates attended the ceremony honoring the graduating students. Featured speakers included John Sims, Advocacy Unlimited, Inc. Board President; Werner Oyanadel, Acting Executive Director, Latino and Puerto Rican Affairs Commission; Jorge L. Rivera, J.D., Founder and Executive Director, Mi Casa Family Services; and AU Executive Director Dr. Karen Kangas. Each of the graduating students gave speeches about their experience in the class and their personal recovery. AU Director of Education Annette Deonarine and Advocate/Educator Selina Welborn presented each of the students with their Graduation Certificates.

A complimentary reception followed the commencement activities.
 
 
 
 
 
 

The 42 graduations are the culmination of 59 AU Advocacy Education Courses that have been held throughout Connecticut since AU was founded. Over 430 students have now graduated and become AU Advocates, 71 from AU's seven Hispanic courses.
