![]()
~ Sixth Hispanic Graduation ~
Congratulations to the graduating students of the 2009 Hartford Advocacy Education Course, AU's sixth course taught entirely in Spanish. To recognize and honor these courageous individuals as they begin their journey as AU Advocates, a commencement ceremony was held Friday, November 20, 2009 at Mi Casa Family Services in Hartford, CT.
Friends, family, guests, and fellow AU Advocates attended the ceremony honoring the graduating students.
The commencement ceremony featured keynote speakers CT Senator John Fonfara and Nayda LeMay, Capitol Region Mental Health Center, and brief speeches by each of the graduating students. AU Director of Education Annette Deonarine, who developed AU's Hispanic curriculum and taught all six Hispanic courses, and AU Executive Director Dr. Karen Kangas presented each of the students with their Graduation Certificates.
We are extremely proud of our new Advocates, and welcome them to the AU Advocate team. The new graduates will now begin their internships in the community.
A complimentary reception followed the commencement activities.
The 41 graduations are the culmination of 55 AU classes that have been held throughout Connecticut since AU was founded. Nearly 420 students have now graduated and become AU Advocates, 61 from AU's six Hispanic courses.
