Artists and photographers from the recovery community are invited to show their works in the exhibit space at the Office of the Commissioner of DMHAS in Hartford.
The exhibit space is in the elevator lobby outside the executive offices. All visitors or persons coming to meetings at the DMHAS office will see the show.
Each show will last approximately one month. Solo and group shows will be scheduled, so artists who have enough work for a 30-piece show as well as those with a few pieces are invited to participate. This should be a great incentive for an artist who wants to get ready to show.
Exhibits will be scheduled with plenty of time to allow artists/photographers to complete or frame their work. There will be a small reception at the exhibit space for each show and each artist is encouraged to invite friends, family, and colleagues.
The guidelines for exhibited work are:
- The art or photograph must be created by a person in recovery from an addiction or psychiatric disability, a family member, or a staff member who serves persons in recovery.
- It must be framed or mounted with a wire or a "saw tooth" or other bracket on the back.
- The artist/photographer will need transportation to the DMHAS office to hang their work (with help from DMHAS staff), to the reception, and to pick up their works at the end of the show (directions to the DMHAS office).

Looking ahead…

In January 2009, the theme of the art exhibit at the Office of the Commissioner will be "Art by the Children of Our Community." This show will last for a month and will feature artwork by the children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc. of persons in recovery, family members or staff persons. There will be room for 7 - 10 artists submitting up to 3 pieces each (depending on framed size).
It is a long way off, but if you know a young artist who would be interested and willing to commit to the show, contact Ronna Keil (860) 418-6985 to reserve space as soon as possible because these slots will go quickly.
