Sharon L. Johnson-Carter, AU Graduate, Class 2003
My experiences as Advocate have been a wonderful opportunity for me and I would not change a thing. I have completed some of the advance classes held by AU. Also I have worked on the task force with legislative issues; such as the co-pay, which we won the battle!! I've also done advocacy work regarding restraint. I've learned to listen, speak, hear and most important is documentation. My motto is "when things don't go right try again". I believe in building a foundation and bond with my peers. My advice to others is to seek information to guide them to the right source. I am involved with the Register of Voters, always encourage people to get out and vote so your voice can be heard. I have been involved with Register of Voters for many years. I will do the best of my ability to assist and help individuals and people in recovery and where ever I am needed. A very important advocacy tip I would like to share with you and one that I find is most important when doing advocacy work. Always be a good listener!
Sharon is a volunteer at AU. She helps with clerical tasks at our office, and production of the newsletter. Sharon has helped with advocacy support at our office, answering calls and helping others by offering support. Your efforts and hard work have not gone unnoticed!
