The Regional Consumer Advisory Council (RCAC) anticipates receiving funds from the CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to award grants to persons in recovery from either addiction and/or psychiatric disability who are both residents of central CT and adults 18 years or older. These mini-grants have a cap of $2,000 and must be used for one of the following priority areas:
1. To develop advocacy among persons in recovery from addiction and/or mental illness.
2. To develop leadership among persons in recovery from substance abuse and/or mental illness.
3. Bring people in recovery from Addiction and Psychiatric Disability together to promote mutual
awareness and understanding.
4. To provide transportation for persons in recovery to trainings, events, and related activities enabling
the development of skills that will allow a voice within the Mental Health and Addiction Service systems.
5. To coordinate and implement a Recovery Conference or Forum related to issues affecting those with psychiatric and/or addictive disorders. (including: dual or multiple diagnosis)
6. Technology: training, software or hardware for use in skill development within an agency connected to mental health and/or addiction disorders. (leadership and possibly #1-advocacy or #3-bringing people together-Psychiatric and Addiction Disorders, will be favored when applying for this criteria)
The RCAC is interested in receiving proposals from adults (18+) in recovery who have ideas for projects that will meet the listed priority areas above. Projects will need support from an existing non-profit agency with 501(c)3 status that agrees to serve as a fiduciary agent (money management). Grant funding will be sent directly to this agent so it is important to have a good relationship with this party. A grant review will take place by peers from outside of the region to ensure no conflict of interest. Selected grantees will receive notification via letter should they be selected. Adults directly employed by the State Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, who are also People in Recovery, cannot apply for these funds as it is a conflict of interest (DMHAS funds the RCAC Mini-Grants project). All other adults in recovery employed by other state departments within Region 4 are welcome to apply as are those employed by non-profits within this region.
***Original signatures on proposal(s) from both project leader and fiduciary are needed, for this reason - applications must be mailed or hand-delivered (No Faxed reproductions accepted at this time).
Funded projects must operate beginning date fiduciary receives mini-grant deposit from North Central Regional Mental Health Board (RCAC) and end by Thursday, May 12, 2005. This generally allows grantees six-seven months to complete projects. Due to the unpredictable nature of state deposits, we cannot predict an exact date at this time in which your fiduciary will receive funding (it generally falls within November). Unspent funds must be returned by Wednesday, May 18, 2005 to: Regional Consumer Advisory Council located at:
