Message from the Executive Director

Greetings Advocates,

I hope that this newsletter finds you having a fun summer. This newsletter brings mixed news. In this newsletter with great sorrow we say goodbye to our friend Rene Miserez. You'll learn more about some psychiatrists connection to the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual). As this goes to press we are awaiting a Bi-monthly where Yvette Sangster, AU's founder, will speak about the history of AU. (I know that we are going to have a great time. She and the staff and I just had a blast at lunch!)

Right now AU is conducting a class in New Britain and at CVH in Middletown. We have tentatively planned summer/fall classes in the Hartford and Middletown areas. If you know anyone who might be interested in becoming an AU advocate have them give Selina a call at AU.

Suddenly it is time to start planning the Advocate's Retreat. We have secured a date and a place - October 5th through 8th at Camp Harkness in Waterford. We need a committee of advocates to develop a theme, plan activities, workshops and generally coordinate things. We need advocates to make the retreat happen! Please call Michele if you are interested in helping to shape the retreat.

Again enjoy your summer and start resting up for legislative session!!

Sincerely,
Melissa Marshall, Executive Director
